For most of us, our car is our second home. Commuting to work, running errands, picking up and dropping off the kids...Man, we spend a lot of time in there! That's why it's just as important to organize your car as it is your home.
A clean, clutter-less car will not only save on maintenance bills in the future, it will also improve your mental state. When you are surrounded by a mess day-in, day-out or can't find what you are looking for on a regular basis, it naturally creates stress. You can prevent this with a one time purge/cleaning session and weekly touch-ups.
We discovered a great checklist with some creative ideas over at Bowl Full of Lemons. This is a great blog for living an organized life. You should definitely check it out. But if you're short on time, here are the basics:
Gather 2 bins & a trash bag, one for each of the following.
- Keep in car bin
- Take in the house bin
- Trash/Recycle bag
- Sort through everything in the car. Empty it completely. Remove anything that doesn’t belong or isn’t necessary to have in the car.
- Wipe down the inside of the car
- Clean windows
- Wash Outside of car
- Take mats out and vacuum/shampoo
ORGANIZE: It’s time to go through everything in the bin. Categorize what you are keeping in the car. Here are some organizing ideas.
- Reusable Grocery Bags
- Emergency Kit
- Car Binder
- Business Receipts
- Kid Kit (If you have kids, you can keep car toys together in a bag/bin)
